[Brussels], March 31, 2026 — Cellist Olsi Leka presents The 6 J.S. Bach Suites for Cello Solo, a historically informed interpretation of the six monumental Suites for Solo Cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. This recording captures the expressive depth and architectural clarity of these iconic works while showcasing Olsi Leka’s personal musical voice.
Performed on a Baroque cello tuned to a lower historical pitch, the recording restores the warmth and resonance of Bach’s original sound world. The Sixth Suite is played on a five-string cello piccolo, widely believed to be the instrument for which it was conceived, revealing the brilliance and expanded range Bach envisioned.
This project reflects Leka’s musical creativity and individual approach to phrasing, articulation, and ornamentation. Each movement is treated as a living musical discourse, shaped by breath, gesture, and expressive nuance, highlighting the dance origins of the Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Minuet, Bourrée, and Gigue.
The recording of the 6 Suites for Cello Solo bridges tradition and modernity, balancing historical authenticity with contemporary interpretation. The result is a performance of depth, transparency, and warmth — a recording that honors the legacy of Bach while speaking directly to today’s listener.

High praise indeed for Herten, but not undeserved. Herten’s reverent interpretation of the intricate material renders the original tunes nearly saccharine and pale in comparison.
